Every time I think I’ve finally got my life on track, something happens. Its been quite an eventful couple of months to say the least (not all good things!) and although I wouldn’t say I stopped blogging for those reasons, I just wanted time to spend with myself and with family without having to worry about blogging too. I always knew blogging would have to come to a stand still at some point, especially because I’m in my third year at University now and my dissertation is all I think about (help!) but I never thought it would be this hard trying to balance everything. I work part time when at University and when I’m not at University I go back to full time, to try and fit blogging on top of all that is a nightmare I do not need. Hence the break, but I’m back and 2019 is hopefully going to bring me some killer content. Whilst I still ponder in lectures at University and write endless words for my dissertation that never seems to want to end at all, I’m going to try and blog better. My blog is the one thing that keeps me sane and one of the things outside of University I love the most.
I suppose the big and only event recently that has happened in my life is Christmas. Cant say I felt very in the Christmas spirit last year (that feels weird to say), but can I hasten to add I was working every day apart from, luckily, Christmas Day. The joy of Christmas music on a loop all day, every day is my one and only reason for no Christmas spirit. Although I did not spend Christmas Day with my family (to get home from where I am based for Uni to where my family was doing Christmas would of been a hectic extra in my life) I spent it at my flat with my boyfriend. Of course we did everything traditionally, Christmas dinner. Okay I lie, that was the only traditional Christmas thing we did. No crackers, I suppose crackers for two isn’t a thing, ever. No Christmas movies, I told you no Christmas spirit but it was a lovely day full of food and movies (not Christmas ones!). I did get to see my family eventually which was really nice and to make up for no crackers on the special day, we did have crackers with my family so you could say I made up for it in the end. So, if you couldn’t already tell, Christmas time was pretty manic for me and safe to say I’m glad its over and the new year is here. Although forgive me for saying as I’m sure the world and his wife have already stated this. January is going extremely slow.
A Very Pretty, Shiny New Thing in my Life
No, its not an engagement ring like the rest of the world is apparently drowning in. Congrats to you all, but I’m seriously over all the engagements now, let alone the babies popping out left, right and centre. No hard feelings. Seriously, none. ITS A NEW CAMERA. An Olympus Pen EPL-9. I had been asking for a camera ever since I started my degree back in 2016 but never knew which one I wanted. As my course continuously decided to kill my love for Photography altogether I decided not to purchase one. However, I then became a blogging guru. No, on a serious note I got really in to my blog and by the end of 2018 I plucked up the courage to want to finally start YouTube. (It hasn’t happened yet, one step at a time they say). So, with the urge to want to start Youtube and to take more photographs for my blog I decided to investigate. My blogger friend Alicia had an EPL-8 and I loved it and as well it looked so retro (not that the look of the camera matters right). Upon hours of research I finally told my mum my very belated birthday/Christmas/graduation present was a camera and there it was on Christmas Day. Shiny and new and very pretty and it made me very happy.
Recently I’ve got back in to listening to music. I used to listen to music all the time, especially when doing work but found that I was singing the lyrics more then I should of been. So, that stopped and music kind of died down for me. However, I have been loving some songs and I’m probably going to be stereotyped as the typical ‘white girl’ but the charts have some banging tunes lately and I’m not going to lie and hide that I’ve been loving them. I can safely assure you I do listen to indie, punk, rock, musicals, Disney and even yes comes to a shocker to most people, drum and bass. I’M NOT ASHAMED though of my chart loving side of me.
Film and Television
In two months I actually have watched quite a lot of films, both old and new. I saw the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born in the cinema and can I just say one word. WOW. I won’t say anymore about them because I’m actually going to do reviews about them later on so keep your eye out for them but they were honestly my favourite films of 2018. One film I did go and see and hated with my boyfriend was Holmes and Watson, the one where Will Ferrell and John.C Reilly take the piss out of the whole theatrics of Sherlock and his companion, Watson. Whilst I adore the Sherlock films themselves and of course Benedict Cumberbatch in the TV series, I have to say this was a shocker. (Bad, not good). I normally love Will Ferrells films but for me this was a flop. I wouldn’t recommend. His humour is normally extremely stupid but hilarious, however this film was just stupid and I found myself laughing at how bad it was. Sorry Will Ferrell, its a no from me.
As for TV shows I loved in 2018 and watched religiously with my boyfriend was The Good Place, seriously funny and a thought for everyone as it dramatises everyones answers to death. The main character Eleanor Shellstrop played by the beautiful Kristen Bell, wakes up in what us humans call the ‘afterlife’ and is introduced to ‘The Good Place’. She realises she was sent there by mistake and that she needs to hide her morally incorrect behaviour in order to stay and become a better, ethical person. Its bloody brilliant and I would highly recommend. A series I also watched was A Haunting On Hill House and whilst my boyfriend couldn’t watch half of it, I throughly enjoyed it and will review it later on.
Much love to you all and a very belated Happy New Year!
