This is my first Halloween post of the year woohoo! Many more to come and I’m super excited. I’ve really started to love everything about Autumn, as much as I’m a girl who needs her sun and a swimming pool, I can’t lie I’m slightly enjoying the fact we are going to be having days where I can wrap up warm and drink hot chocolate. Although the early morning starts and the dread of getting out of a warm bed in to the brink of coldness is something no one is wishing upon. Anyway let’s get in to the post because there’s so many movies I don’t even know where to start!
The Addams Family
I mean who doesn’t love this film, there is at least one character we can relate to in this film. I mean maybe not the ghost part, but we all have a bit of Morticia Addams in us. Am I right? This film came out in 1991, it is a classic. No remake can beat it and if they even try I’m sure there will be a lot of unhappy people. This is where there’s been a remake and I look like the stupid one haha. Of course we all love and know the songs off by heart and if you don’t I really don’t understand you. FUN FACT. The film went $5 million over budget. I mean, it was worth it.
On to the next…
If this film hasn’t made you cry at least once I don’t think you have a soul haha. This film gets to me every time and I swear it’s not even meant to be sad. Well not based off the previous versions of comics, cartoons and films. I want to be Caspers friend, I don’t want him to be lonely. FUN FACT. This was the first film to have a fully CGI generated character as a leading role. Yes I do know that, that is the geek side of me coming out. Sorry.
I don’t know if this film is classed as a Halloween film but my god this used to scare me as a child. I mean who wouldn’t be frightened as a child about witches that eat children, I mean come on. I loved Roald Dahls books growing up and of course I had to see The Witches brought to life. I don’t even know if I’m brave enough now to watch it. My childhood nightmares of me being eaten by a witch still haunt me to this day haha. FUN FACT. Dahl didn’t actually like this version of the film they created as the ending differs from the book.
Keeping with the witchy theme, we have the famous trio. Winifred, Sarah and Mary. The three actresses work perfectly together and even watching the trailer puts a smile on my face. FUN FACT. Leonardo DiCaprio was meant to play the character Max but declined it for another film. BOOOOOO.
Moving on to the more recent movies…
The child inside me still bloody loves this film. I’ve seen two out of the three and I need to see the third one asap because these films bring me joy. What characters should be scary you learn to love and grow with haha. I want to be friends with them and I’m pretty sure me as a child would reject this massively, but there so cool! FUN FACT. Theres a television series on Disney channel focusing on the teenage years of Mavis and her friends at the hotel. Now that makes me want to get Disney just for that reason. God dammit.
Last but not least…
Probably the most scariest film ever. It’s the button for the eyes. I’m not even kidding when I say I had numerous nightmares after I watched this of my mum sewing buttons on to my eyes. Sorry mum. But honestly, if you didn’t get scared at this film, like it was just creepy. The vibe of the film just gave me goosebumps, like it was a weird, freaky film but so good at the same time. FUN FACT. It’s originally a novel by Neil Gaiman.
I want to know what your favourite Halloween films are, I could probably keep going with my list but I feel we would be here forever. Let me know in the comments below. As always thanks for reading, see you on Monday for a lesson with Soph on Halloween History.
