Hello my lovelies, I hope you are all having an amazing summer wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. Today we talk to Tanya, 29-year-old from Orpington. She works in London at Debenhams Head Office and has been blogging for 8 years with Glam Glitz Gloss being 5 years old. Tanya talks about her love for travelling and how she hates the drama that occurs in the community.
What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
I had worked a season in Magaluf and when I wasn’t looking for a job I used to go on the More Magazine Facebook Page which was really active and I made some great friends through it. They had a competition to become a More Mag Blogger which I entered… But never won and thank god! Everyone said they edited their posts so much it didn’t even feel like their work anymore so I said right I can do this by myself and here I am 8 years later still in love with my hobby.
Whats the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?
I got to review the London Creamfields festival and got to take my friend with me as my plus one. I got to collaborate with Urban Decay who are my favourite make up brand. I get to attend a number of Christmas in July previews and I got to review the UK’s first ever Naked Speed Dating Event, there’s so many great things I’ve done through my blog but I’m forever grateful for every single one.
Wow that’s amazing, it would be a dream to work with Urban Decay!
Who is your biggest influence?
In blogging terms I would say my best friend Charli who is also a blogger and I think we encourage and influence each other, we’re always proud of each others opportunities and push each other to do the best post we can. My biggest influence outside of blogging would have to be my grandparents, on both sides of my family my grandparents raised a household of children alone after getting out of bad relationships and all I want to do is make them both proud of me and they are always so supportive of my choices.
I’m sure they are incredibly proud girl!
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
You can’t change how people feel about you so don’t try, just live your life and be happy.
If you love someone but if they constantly make you unhappy and you can’t see a way to make it work walk away. It will hurt but not as much as it will hurt staying in a bad situation.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love going for dinner with my family, having cocktails with friends and looking for new adventures and experiences. I love to travel, whether that’s around the UK or overseas.
Where is the best place you’ve been and why?
My favourite place in the world is Magaluf, I worked a season there in 2010 and it gets such a bad rep but its one of the funnest places to go on holiday. I’ve not only made some amazing friends whilst there, but I stay at the same apartments and the staff are like my second family. I’ve actually cried upon leaving before.
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
My favourite part of blogging is having my own little corner of the internet to express myself however I please and the community and friends it has brought into my life. Some of my best friends I wouldn’t know had I never started blogging and there’s always someone to go to within the blogging community who will listen to your problems and not judge.
My least favourite part about blogging is the unnecessary drama that some can’t seem to be able to survive without, the entitled bloggers who think the world should be handed to them on a plate and they shouldn’t have to work for it. I also don’t like the stress of having too many deadlines to keep on top of that, but that’s usually my own doing by being too busy to blog or getting distracted by a show on Netflix.
Favourite beauty brands?
I’m very loyal to my favourites and don’t tend to stray too far from them. My eyebrows are Lancome, my face is a mix of Urban Decay and Bare Minerals, and the only highlighter to grace my face is Iconic London’s Illuminator.
What is a typical day in your life?
I don’t feel like I have a typical day right now because of blogging, I work a 9-5 job but my boss is quite flexible if I want to work different hours to accommodate a blog event. An evening could consist of chilling at home, dinner and drinks with friends having a catch up, or attending a blog event.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
In literal terms, my hay fever meds over the summer ha, but otherwise my Bare Minerals Primer or Urban Decay Rapture Lipstick.
I feel you on that one girl, hay fever is the worst.
Three words to describe you?
Creative, Adventurous and Spontaneous
How would you describe your personal style?
As I’ve got older I think my main goal with clothes is comfort and anything that doesn’t make me feel fat. On a night out I like to wear either a playsuit or dress with heels, it’s extremely rare to find me in flats on a night out. I haven’t owned jeans in years and live in leggings and I love baggy, slouchy clothes for a day-to-day basis and definitely make more of an effort for events and nights out than I do with my work wear.
Drugstore or high-end gal?
Best advice to bloggers?
Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, don’t fixate on the numbers and write what you are passionate about. If you spend your time comparing yourself to someone else and worrying about your numbers you will just lose your love for blogging and if you write what you think people want to hear over what you’re passionate about then it will show in your work. People grow at different rates and as long as you are proud of your content then what else matters, you’ll be the one looking back over it in years to come not a random stranger.
Thanks for reading my lovelies, tune in tomorrow for my interview with Erriel (EJChronicles).
