Behind the Screen of Sophie Hearts

Behind the Screen of Sophie Hearts

Today commences the fifth episode of Behind the Screens and we unravel the girl behind Sophie Hearts. Sophie has only just turned 23 and lives in the Norfolk countryside. She currently works part time as an accounts assistant and is in her second year of a psychology degree. She also juggles being a blogger and an avid Instagram user so she’s a pretty busy bee! Sophie talks about how her at home pamper days are the best way to de-stress and how she is a high-end girl through and through.

What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?

When I started my blog I was working full time at a building society as a customer adviser, I’d been told that I was going to be made redundant as my branch was closing. As a result, we saw a dramatic decrease in customers and a slight increase in angry people with problems switching over to another provider, so it wasn’t the most enjoyable year! I always wanted to blog and I love having a creative outlet, so I decided to begin focusing my energy less on my day job and more on something which I’d enjoy- blogging and content creating!

What’s the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing brands, but I think the best thing for me is being able to see a visible improvement in my content- both writing and photography. Fingers crossed I’ll continue to improve – practise makes perfect!

Who is your biggest influence?

Wow, there are so many amazing blogs that combine to provide me with inspiration, I really couldn’t single out one specifically! A recent discovery for me is Cosmo’s ‘best newcomer’ contender Beth Sandland whose blog I really love.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

‘Find a job you love and you’ll never work another day’- Although I’m not quite there yet, I’ve always kept it in mind and have a much better work life balance and aspirations because of it. I think that finding a job that you enjoy is so important to your overall happiness and wellbeing.

What do you do in your spare time?

More blogging! Aside from that I love holidaying, watching guilty pleasures (I have a lot) on Netflix, spending time with my other half and my kitty, or trying to de-stress with a trip to the Spa or an at-home pamper involving a Lush bath, lots of skincare and a book.

At home pamper sessions are the best!

What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?

My favourite is getting to work with amazing brands and connect with other bloggers. I also love that feeling when you’ve finished off a blog post and you’re really pleased with how it’s come together.

My least favourite is the stress- which I admit is self-inflicted. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and stress out over the smallest things. I’m very lucky to have such a patient and encouraging other half who motivates me through my occasional melt-downs when a shoot doesn’t look the way it did in my head!

I think everyone is a perfectionist about something they do, even if they don’t admit it.

Favourite beauty brands on at the moment?

I’m particularly loving some new (to me) products from Estee Lauder and have also recently rekindled my love for Urban Decay.

What is a typical day in your life?

I get up and usually spend too much time on my phone and doing my make-up to have any breakfast! Then I spend the day at work, or at home blogging/ taking pictures and/ or doing uni work. I have four days at home and typically three of these will be productive, with the other one being spent doing something fun with my partner, Jamie. I try and get to the gym three times a week and obviously make as much time for friends and family catch ups too! Typical days aren’t overly exciting I’m afraid.

What one product couldn’t you live without?

Oh my goodness only one? Aside from even considering beauty products I’d have to say my iPhone, I’m on it constantly.

Three words to describe you

 Ambitious, stubborn, kind.

How would you describe your personal style?

Simple- I wish I was confident enough to pull off whacky trends or even start my own, but typically I tend to play it safe!

Simple isn’t bad girl, simple is always stylish and elegant! Dress however you want to!

 Drugstore or high end gal?

A bit of both, but if we’re talking beauty and I could only pick one it would have to be high end.

Best advice to bloggers

There are so many amazing bloggers out there who really don’t need advice from me! Saying that, I think that it’s really, really important to be authentic. I’m all for gifted or sponsored posts, but there are some bloggers who will never review a product in a negative light which I think comes across as a little suspicious. Recommendations should always be authentic, I’d never promote or recommend anything I don’t genuinely like as I’d hate for anyone to doubt my integrity.
