Hello my lovelies, today I’m talking to Shayla, a licensed Aesthetician as well as a makeup artist! She was born and raised in Arizona, and is still hanging out there currently with her pups. Shayla talks about her new series on her blog and how she’s obsessed with Greys Anatomy.
What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
Before blogging I was going to school to be an Aesthetician, and throughout that time I just fell in love with skin care and makeup. After school I landed a job at Sephora, bouncing between the makeup and skin care realms, which was ultimately the best of both worlds for me! My favorite part of my job was getting to talk one-on-one with the clients about their goals and helping them feel like their most confident selves.
What’s the best thing you’ve done with your blog?
The best and most exciting thing I’ve done with my blog, I’m actually doing right now! I just launched a new series called “Makeup 101: Your Crash Course To Beauty”. With this series I really wanted to create something that everyone can do, whether you are a newbie to makeup, a boss lady, or a busy mom. *** Another exciting feature of this series is that I’m going to be incorporating YouTube makeup tutorials, which I’ve never done before on my blog!
Who is your biggest influence?
My biggest influence as a beauty blogger has to be Kandee Johnson. Which if you guys don’t know her she is a YouTuber and is literally the most talented makeup artist ever! I still remember when I was around the age of thirteen, I would sit on the floor with my neighbor and watch countless tutorials by Kandee. I absolutely love how she created her brand from the bottom up, and has always stayed true to herself.
What is a typical day in your life?
A typical non-working day in my life is pretty chill and doing things like: waking up in the morning and going to Seattle Espresso (which is THE best coffee shop in Arizona, hands down), watching Grey’s Anatomy bc I’m obsessed, and hanging out with my family. I’m super blessed in the fact that most of them live near me so I still get to see them on a regular basis!
What one product couldn’t you live without?
One product I couldn’t live without is face cleanser. It’s such a weird little quirk but I cannot start or end my day without washing my face. I just feel so gross and unproductive if I don’t lol.
I feel the same! Your face feels all groggy!
Drugstore or High-End Gal?
When it comes to drugstore vs high-end, I honestly just love products that work. So if that means I spend $5 instead of $50, then I just consider it a “wallet win”! I think both (drugstore and high-end) have products that are amazing and others that could use some improvement. At the end of the day it all comes down to how they work for you.
Best Advice To Bloggers
My best advice to all bloggers is just to go for it, and don’t be afraid of what people might think. Something that I’ve definitely learned is that all successes never come from within your comfort zone, so don’t be afraid to push and challenge yourself! Also don’t expect to be Wonder Woman on your very first day of blogging. You will not only evolve as a writer, but you will evolve as a person as time goes on. So just be patient with yourself. You will get your footing, and you will get to where you want to be, you just have to be patient.
Thanks for reading my lovelies, tune in tomorrow for my interview with Teri Ellington.
