Hello my lovelies we are back with the seventh episode of Behind the Screens. I’ve certainly got to know some amazing people within these interviews. The next lady is Lily, she’s a 24 year old Fashion and Lifestyle blogger from London. Lily has a degree in fashion design and is currently working part-time as a stylist/ tailor for Levi’s while being trained in VM. Lily talks about how she’s just finished season 2 of Thirteen Reasons Why and how honesty is always the best policy. What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
Before blogging I was working as a bridal stylist, It was my first job after graduating, as enjoyable as it was I knew I wanted to take a different path. I had spoken about blogging / starting a YouTube channel during my time at University but fear definitely got in the way of me pursuing that as a career. I didn’t know anyone, who did what I want to do, to be able to seek advice or guidance. It was after speaking to family and friends about how I wanted to have a blog and eventually a YouTube channel that it clicked in my head: I should just stop talking about it and just start doing it!
What’s the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?
The best thing I’ve done so far within my blog has to be just the fact that I finally started doing it. I’m still new to the blogging world, I forget that its open for everyone to read, I get people saying oh I read your blog post I really like what you said about this…and I’m just sat there like oh you read my blog!? I just want to empower women and give the advice I give to my friends to everyone who needs to hear it.
Who is your biggest influence?
Three bloggers I’m loving at the moment, as well as the content they’re creating on their YouTube channels are Lizzie Hadfield AKA Shot from the streets, Megan Ellaby and Emily Valentine Parr AKA Style Lobster. All three for similar reasons, Lizzie Hadfield was the first Fashion Vlogger I found on YouTube that was doing something different. She was creating fashion based content on style more than trends I love her series testing basics, it was so refreshing to see someone create the kind of fashion content that spoke to me, seeing her reassured me that it isn’t just about hauls and boyfriend buys my outfit challenges (As much as I enjoy the odd haul, or challenge video, it gets boring after a while.)
I Love watching Megan Ellaby because she’s dead chilled and again, like Lizzie, doing her own thing, not really following Trends- Our styles couldn’t be more different but I get inspired by Megan because of the courage it takes to not follow trends in fashion.
Style Lobster is actually a blog I recently came across, Emily speaks about self-love which is something I take pride in preaching about, I love her style too. It, again, has its own element to it, it’s not so trend focused and more what she likes and works for her. I love seeing Independent women dressing for themselves and taking pride in their identity.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Honesty is the best policy. It’s an oldie but a goldie!
What do you do in your spare time?
I’m a Netflix binger, I love watching TV shows and Movies, I also love spending time with family and friends. But a lot of my spare time is me in bed watching series surrounded by junk food.
What’s your favourite Netflix Series?
Tricky question! I watch so many things. I just finished watching season 2 of 13 reasons why, I also finished Riverdale recently too. It’s really weird because I watch multiple series at once depending on my mood, then one always seems to captivate me more so I just binge it like crazy, then get upset when I finish it! I am on the lookout for some new series to watch, I’m thinking I might start Homeland, maybe pick up Power again, as I haven’t finished that, I might start watching Altered Carbon, my partner is watching it and says it’s really good. I’m definitely on the lookout for some new shows to watch so would love some recommendations! I watch such a mix of things!
I wasn’t too keen on Altered Carbon but I just watched Lost in Space and it was amazing. Also just started watching The Alienist.
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
My favourite part is being able put out the content I want, I always said, as long as I help / inspire one person it’s worth it.
The least favourite part (Not just about blogging but about anything creative) Those that think successful creatives are lucky. An overnight success. They don’t understand how much work and time goes into creativity.
Favourite beauty brands on at the moment?
I don’t currently have a favourite. I’ve been using a lot of NYX recently, it’s affordable and does what I want it to do. I’m so basic when it comes to make-up I want the easiest look that will take me the least amount of time to do (Beauty Gurus please don’t hate haha)
What is a typical day in your life?
I’m an early riser regardless of if I have work or not that day. The latest I’ll wake up is 9 am. I usually come down feed my dog, then I let him out in the garden. Prep breakfast then go upstairs and get back into bed while I eat it and watch something. Once I’ve finished my breakfast I’ll get up, again, and get changed to start my day. Each day is different depending on what I need to do for the day. If I have loads of work to do I usually try to crack on with it straight away. If it’s a free day, I’ll see who’s about to chill. I’m very laid back, probably too laid back haha. I take each day as it comes.
What one product wouldn’t you live without?
I have NO IDEA! Mascara maybe? If I look pretty dead I usually find I can just put mascara on and it will make me look more alive haha. That or dry shampoo cause hell that product is a lifesaver when my hair is looking flat and needs a little boost.
Three words to describe you
Honest, Easy-going, Positive
How would you describe your personal style?
Comfortable, Laid-back, Effortless, I take inspiration from Scandi & London style, I definitely dress to my mood, I’ve seen my style go from being quite loud to becoming laid-back and calmer, more relaxed.
Drugstore or high end gal?
Drugstore? Maybe It’s because I can’t justify spending that kind of money on high end cosmetics.
Best advice to bloggers.
My best advice is to just do it. Don’t spend your whole time planning, you won’t know until you put yourself out there. Also it’s how much you invest in. The more time you spend on it the more you will get out of it.
Thanks for reading my lovelies, tune in tomorrow for my interview with The Happy Diary.
