Hello my lovelies, I’m talking to Laura, a 23 year old graphic designer & blogger from Glasgow. She’s been blogging for three years now. For over two years her blog was known as The Floral Elephant but she’s recently changed her blog name to One Cocktail At A Time so it matches her podcast about where she interviews people about their creative journey. Laura talks about how she can’t live without her dressing gown, I mean every girl is with you on that one! What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
I started blogging in my fourth year of university as an alternative creative outlet after watching people like Samantha Maria (Beauty Crush at the time) on YouTube, then finding their blogs and becoming obsessed with the blogging community.
Whats the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?
Definitely meeting people. I’m quite a shy person but blogging has grown my confidence and has helped me meet some of my closest friends. Also, attending food events has been such a great achievement as it combines all my favourite hobbies.
Who is your biggest influence?
Blogger-wise I’ve got quite a few, I love Victoria from InTheFrow, her whole aesthetic and she is absolutely killing it with her blog at the moment. For writing and real-ness, I love, my favourite duo, Hannah Gale and Chloe Plumstead.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Just do it — not to go all Nike on you but that’s pretty much it, if you want something go for it.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I go to the gym, go out for dinner, and cocktails, of course, with my friends and wedding planning!
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is getting to know likeminded people & having a creative outlet that you curate so it’s completely personal to you.
My least favourite thing about blogging is blogger guilt. The guilt of not being able to keep up with your blogging schedule when motivation is low or when life gets in the way is unreal.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
My dressing gown. I live in that thing, as soon as I get home from work I put it on. Its almost like a comfort blanket.
How would you describe your personal style?
Hmm, this is a hard one. I’d say quite mixed, some days it’s all black and others I’m rocking a big, bright, floral print.
Drugstore or high end gal?
Definitely drugstore, as much as I love high end I feel like you can get similar products, if not better products, for a fraction of the price.
Best advice to bloggers.
Do it for yourself. Whether that’s in blogging or anything else you do. Don’t do it for the views, the ‘free stuff’ etc. Yes, these things are all great but they only come from hard work and being yourself. People can tell a mile off when you are trying to be something you’re not in order to fit a specific mould.
Thanks for reading my lovelies, tune in tomorrow for
