Hello my lovelies, today is the sixteenth episode of Behind the Screens. WHAT?! Today I’m talking to Katy Mackenzie, a 20 year old, who is originally from Reading but now lives in Derby, where she studies Film. Katy talks about how her parents are her biggest influences and how she can’t live without music.
What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
I was in my first year of Sixth form and I knew my sister did some blogging on the side and I had just lost my mum to cancer so I used blogging to help me get my feelings out and focus my free time on something I liked doing.
I’m so sorry to hear that sweet, my love goes out to you. I’m sure your mum would be super proud of you at what your achieving in life.
What’s the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?
I think the best think I have done on my blog is a post called “From Fat to Plus Sized”. I have never really discussed my weight anywhere so I decided to write a post on how I went from calling myself fat and how I changed my perception of myself and started to call myself Plus-Sized! I love that post as it shows that no matter what I look like I am still beautiful the way I am.
All body types are beautiful, never forget that!
Who is your biggest influence?
My biggest influence would have to be my parents. My mum was always proud of me and although she isn’t here. I know that she is looking down on me and loving what I am doing. My dad has always supported my choices and helped me throughout my life and he always is happy to hear what I have been up to.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
I don’t normally take much advice as I am very stubborn but I always follow one quote and that is “Do if for yourself, not for others” I have no clue who said it but I may have made it up a few years ago but I have always stuck by it, no matter what happens.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like to watch films and TV shows. I also am a lover of music so I will listen to music whenever I can. Even when I go to sleep, I am listening to something because my brain is never quiet!
What’s your favourite film?
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
I love just making something for someone to read. I love making content and inspiring other people to write.
I hate when I am stuck for ideas. It is the most annoying thing!
Favourite beauty brands?
I am loving Makeup Revolution, Kiko, Laura Geller and NYX at the moment!
What is a typical day in your life?
Get up, have a drink, check my emails, write a blog post, write ideas down, watch some Netflix, plan more ideas, read friends blog posts, play some Rollercoaster Tycoon Mobile, sleep.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
I couldn’t live without music, it helps me in so many ways and it always helps me change my moods when needed.
Three words to describe you
Loud, creative, determined.
How would you describe your personal style?
Black. I wear black most days but I would say I don’t really have a style but I love fashion even though I don’t blog about it!
Drugstore or high-end gal?
Drugstore all the way. Being a student, the drugstore is my best friend when I want to buy makeup. I do like high-end stuff but it is so expensive and on a student budget, it has to be drug store.
Best advice to bloggers.
Be yourself. No matter what you post, don’t do it for the views. Make content you love! If you want to speak about something on your mind, do it! I’ve found readers love when you’re honest with them!
