Hello my lovelies, today I am talking to travel blogger Kate who lives in the East Midlands, UK with her hubby (Matt) and 12-year old daughter (Freya). She works part-time as a Spanish tutor and the rest of her time is spent on her writing, blogging and photography. Kate started her travel blog a year ago and her photography blog has only been up and running for a few weeks. Kate talks about how life is too short to waste it on pointless things and how she has given up on having a blogging schedule.
What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
I was working as a private Spanish tutor but spending more time on it than I am now (I did a degree in Hispanic Studies). Starting my blog was a sudden decision… it was started on a bit of a whim but I have always been into photography and writing, so had lots of material ready to go! Once I’d had the idea, I had it up and running within a few days!
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
Life is short – don’t waste your time doing things you don’t enjoy!
What do you do in your spare time?
I don’t have much spare time to be honest – in between working, blogging and housework I also have to take my daughter to training 6 times a week (she’s a competitive swimmer) and to galas… if I had more spare time I would spend more time on my photography and have a bit more pamper time!
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
My favourite part of blogging is going through my photos – it brings back so many happy memories.
The worst part is trying to stick to some sort of blogging schedule – it doesn’t always work due to my other commitments and then I get a bit stressed about it! Which is why I’ve pretty much given up on having any kind of schedule and just post when I can.
What is a typical day in your life?
I get up around 7am and get Freya off to school. I then work on my blog/writing, do some photography and prepare Spanish lessons until lunchtime. After lunch I usually go food shopping then get our dinner ready (we often eat early because of swimming). After dinner, we go off to the pool which is a 45-minute drive away. I spend a couple of hours there either chatting or working on my laptop. By the time I get back it’s usually about 9pm so I watch a bit of TV with Matt then go to bed.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
My iPhone – my whole life is on there!
Three words to describe you
Opinionated, perfectionist, strong-willed – I have lot to say and I like things done right basically!!
How would you describe your personal style?
I’m very casual usually, unless I am tutoring and then I have to be a bit smarter… it’s the joy of working from home I suppose – I can wear what I want! I make more effort when I go out obviously but even then, it’s only skinnies and a nice top unless I’m going somewhere special!
Thats what Misguided’s Jeans and a nice top section is all about!
Drugstore or high-end gal?
A bit of both to be honest – if I like a product and it works for me I don’t really mind where it’s from!
Best advice to bloggers.
If you are thinking about starting a blog, make sure it is on something you are passionate about – otherwise it may become a bit of a chore and it will probably fall by the wayside quite quickly!
Thanks for reading my lovelies, tune in tomorrow for my interview with Hampers and Hiccups.
