Hello my lovelies, so I’ve officially been in my new flat with my boyfriend for four days and I’m loving it!! I can’t even explain my excitement. Today in my ‘Behind the Screens’ series I am talking to 22-year-old blogger, Hannah. She studied music managment at university and graduated this year, her dissertation was a business plan specialising in influencer marketing in the music industry. Hannah talks about her love for Fenty Beauty and how frustrating the Instagram algorithm is.
What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
When I first started blogging I was 18 (I’m 22 now) and just started sixth form. I started up my website and blog Instagram because I was spending so long on the internet and wanted to create something new to diary my life! I remember during the time, Charlotte Fisher was a huge influence for me starting on Instagram, as I loved her use of colour through her photos and style!
Whats the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?
Having a blog has opened up loads of opportunities for me, I’ve gone to multiple blogger events and pr, as well as working with companies on paid collaborations through social media! One of my favourite events was a make up revolution birthday party with super drug, greg james was dj’ing for us!
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
‘Good things come to those who work their arses off; not wait’.
What do you do in your spare time?
As blogging is a part-time hobby, it is something i do in my spare time. During my time at University I was the president of a music magazine (www.themngr.com) and was part of a pole fitness society!
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging is the community, how we support each other with each others content. Through blogging I have made so many internet friends that I regularly keep in contact with!
With this in mind, the close relationships that other bloggers have with each other can cause drama online. It isn’t unusual to see twitter arguments or see some sort of controversy. I really want other bloggers to be supporting each other, not dragging each other down.
I also get frustrated that Instagram algorithms are affecting bloggers growth throughout the platform, similar to YouTube algorithm not showing everyone who is subscribed to your posts and introducing the ‘bell’ to receive alerts. I think it’s a shame that platforms which became popular because of influencers are changing so that they can’t be used in the same way by bloggers as they were 4 years ago.
Favourite beauty brands?
Recently when I was in Rome I purchased the Fenty beauty pro filt’r foundation and killawatt highlighter in lightening dust/fire crystal. I can’t believe the quality of the products and how much they are worth the hype! Also, recently I was gifted some eyeshadow palettes from profusion, they are so wearable and one of the brushes they came with is such a perfect blending brush.
What is a typical day in your life?
I live in London so a typical day normally includes tubes and rude londeners… haha but in all seriousness, my day-to-day life varies. I have a part-time job at a tech company and tend to go out with my friends exploring london attending gigs.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
I don’t think I could live without my iPhone 8 plus, but at the minute with the heat I’d say my benross fan hahah!
Three words to describe you?
ambitious, compassionate, loyal
How would you describe your personal style?
I like experimenting with colour, yellow is my favourite! One day I may be dressed like an indie hipster attending a gig, the next day a classy girl in heels and hair extensions. There’s no rules to my fashion items, I just wear what I enjoy and what is fun!
Drugstore or high-end gal?
It is such a cop-out to say a bit of both isn’t it… I definitely reach more for my high-end products!
