Hello my lovelies, today I’m talking to 24-year-old, single mum and full-time blogger Gemma, from Scarborough, far, far up north! Gemma talks about how her little boy Ru is her biggest influence and how Bobbi Brown is her favourite beauty brand at the moment. What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
Before blogging I was just a uni student, I had a passion for makeup and wanted a creative outlet but didn’t fancy the whole YouTube thing so I decided to start a blog instead, during my second year of uni. I studied graphic design so it was a good little hobby to get into where I could incorporate my career path as well as beauty.
Whats the best thing you’ve done so far within your blog?
The best thing I’ve done so far has to be taking the plunge and dropping freelance design to go full-time. I was earning enough money to do it and now I’m earning more than I ever was being a freelance designer, I couldn’t be in a better place!
Who’s your biggest influence?
My biggest blogger influence, even though it’s quite your typical answer, has to be Kate La Vie. I’ve been in love with her dreamy blog ever since the beginning – absolute goals! As for a family member, my little Ru without a doubt. He encourages me everyday to be better and to keep going even when I’m going through a rough patch.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
To realise my worth! I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t stopped undervaluing myself and my work.
What do you do in your spare time?
What spare time? Full time blogging and raising a toddler on my own gives me none!!
What is your favourite and least favourite part about blogging?
My favourite part would be the people it’s connected me with. I’ve made so many friends for life through it, I was in quite a lonely place before I had my blog and everything that came with it. The worst would be how time-consuming it is in order to keep everything flowing.
Favourite beauty brands?
My favourite brand atm is Bobbi Brown! Obsessed with their sparkle sticks and I’m trying to build a collection of other products from them. It’s not going well however when I’m on a spending ban…
Whats a typical day in your life?
A typical day in my life includes lots of cleaning up, running round after a wild toddler, and typing emails until my hands ache. I try to give myself days off now and get out the house, it’s great for my mind.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
I have to say my camera. It’s the best thing ever.
Three words to describe you?
Small, passionate & common sense. (that’s four but oh well.)
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is really simple and casual, mostly black!
Drugstore or high-end?
I’m definitely a mix but I probably own more high-end than drugstore.
Best advice to bloggers?
Just do what you love! I find that producing content that I want to rather than what other people want me to is the best way to be. The right audience will find you and you’ll be happy doing what you do.
Thanks for reading my lovelies, tune in tomorrow for my interview with Georgia Phelps.
