Behind the Screen of Becky Butcher

Behind the Screen of Becky Butcher
Hello my lovelies, been loving my series so far, so I hope you have as well. Today I’m talking to the lovely Becky Butcher, 21 years old, from South Yorkshire. Social media marketing & content creating is her only job. She loves animals, DIY and socialising or traveling to local areas. Becky talks about her difficult obstacles in life that have made her the person she is today and how blogging helped her through it all.

What were you doing before blogging and how did you get in to it?
I was a college student, then had terrible anxiety / panic attacks after being stalked & sexually harassed / catfished by 2 close male friends. I had a break down and didn’t leave the house for more than a few hours & without my mum being with me for almost a year. I was in therapy / on meds and decided to take Instagram seriously to keep myself distracted & I gained followers for it. Then Quiz Clothing contacted me and asked if I’d promote them (which I’d never heard of before) and I enjoyed it so did it again with more and more brands. Then decided to set up an actual blog page (which I don’t use that often as Instagram is my main outlet) and I post on them as often as I can. Now I have turned that into an actual business.
ALSO I have a rare deformity / syndrome that only I have in the world, so I like to update people on that and to show people that you can still be successful and happy despite your differences. I only have 1 breast, dislocating (dysplasia) hips and hypermobile (over extending joints) hands too. I try my best to let others know they aren’t alone and never let my differences stop me from doing what I enjoy!
Well all I can say girl is that they definitely were not your friends. You are truly an amazing person. You’ve been through so much and you are here to prove that nothing can stand in your way of your dreams.
Whats the best thing you’ve done so far with your blog?
So far the best thing I’ve done on my blog is to get a personal interview with the creator of Joe Browns clothing store. I spoke to him privately and he even paid me for it. I also get invited to review restaurants often which I enjoy too!
Who’s your biggest influence?
I look up to MariaJBlogs and HelloMissJordan who I consider to be friends of mine. Their content is always so beautiful and well thought out which inspires me to make my photos the best they can be & to not settle for anything less.
Best advice you’ve been given?
That no matter what I do, I’ll offend someone. If I wear no makeup or a lot, if I’m fully clothed or not, if I post about my relationships or friendships. I can’t make everyone happy so I might as well just focus on what makes me happy.
Exactly girl, not everyone is going to like you or be happy with some of the things you do but as long as you are happy and love yourself for who you are that’s all that matters.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy creating things or DIY projects, it makes me feel successful and it’s an achievement that I’ve created something myself that can be useful or enjoyable to me or others. I think I got it from my Dad.
Whats your favourite and least favourite about blogging?
My favourite part about blogging is that I can write as much or as little as I want and can express my true opinions on something that I wanted to share with others to warn or encourage them to buy an item.
My least favourite thing is the judgment of others. I blog my own way and don’t judge others for how they work & I believe that everyone has their own writing style and should be able to make their blogs their own without following what everyone else is doing. Some bloggers can be nasty and have expectations for everyone to follow their rules but I don’t think there should be any rules or guidelines when it comes to your own creativity and imagination.
Favourite beauty brands?
My favourite beauty brands are Too Faced, Charlotte Tilbury, Unicorn Cosmetics, Makeup Revolution, Fenty and Urban Decay. I’ve worked with a few of the brands and it’s helped me discover new products of theirs that I love, and the other brands I tend to buy from regularly.
What is a typical day in your life?
I usually wake up early, write some blogs and YouTube scripts, have breakfast and watch the news, get dressed and wait for the sun to be in the perfect spot to take some photos. I’ll contact brands and sort my business paperwork out, clean the house for when my family are back from work and school. I may even take a trip to a location to shoot photos with a friend if they’re available or visit my granddad. I hate being bored so I’ll always try to do something and tend to try to base what I do around the opportunity of working so that I’m never not being useful or wasting my time.
What one product couldn’t you live without?
I couldn’t live without my phone. That’s what I use to take my photos, edit my photos, write my blogs and scripts, email people with etc. It’s the only thing I have right now that I can do work with. I’ve just got a MacBook and a camera so I can improve my content and create things faster without it all being done on the phone, so fingers crossed!
Three words to describe you
I’d say that I’m Caring, Creative and Funny.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is everything pink. I love white and bright items or buildings, while wearing pink clothes or accessories. Everything cute and fun I love, especially pastel colours.
My writing style tends to be short and to the point. But that’s just because I prefer to read shorter reviews where they get their point across without dragging out the topic.
Drugstore or high-end?
I’m a high-end person and I’m not really ashamed of it. I’d rather pay a higher price for a product that will last a while and won’t affect my skin, that way I can use that time to save money to replace it when it runs out, rather than spending money often to get new products. I’ve found that they tend to be better quality as you’re paying for the quality rather than for them to be made quick and cheap. HOWEVER that doesn’t mean I’m willing to pay crazy prices just to have a fancy name on my products. I’ll tend to buy them cheaper in Tkmaxx or only buy when there’s a sale so that I’m not wasting my money. BUT I do also love, own and use some high street brands and find them very useful when I’m in a rush or in need of something ASAP.
Best advice to bloggers
My advice to bloggers is to never look around at what everyone else is doing, just be yourself and focus on your own content. You can’t please everyone so at least please yourself as long as you aren’t hurting anyone. People would much rather see someone who they can relate to or they know is a real person who is happy within themselves, rather than someone who pretends to be someone they aren’t just to fit in to the “norm”. Stand out from the crowd and be different.
