Skincare Routine

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Hello everyone. How is the week nearly over, more to the point it’s already the 13th July. Where is this month going?! Its crazy. Anyway, today I thought I would share with you my skin care routine. I know from a personal experience I love reading or watching someones skin care routine. I’m either just really nosey or I’m just super intrigued in what works for people. Skin care is so important to me. Its my holy grail.

For years I’ve been trying to get my skin care right and now I think I finally have. Yay for me. I know for many people the journey to ‘perfect’ skin is hard. Mine was and still is continuing. I used to have bad acne. My first call was the doctors and for a while sticks and creams worked but for some reason my skin likes to adapt to a product that’s working and then stop working completely. Annoying, I know. After that, I tried for years, different high-end brands like Clinique, to try to clear my skin, none I have to say worked for me and some even made my skin worse. I finally about two years ago went to a dermatologist and she recommended Dermalogica and I have to say I’m never going back.

Dermalogica: Essential Cleansing Solution
This was my saviour. I think I cried when I started seeing my skin clear up and then to go back a year later and still say it was working was a miracle for me. It’s so gentle on the skin and leaves your skin feeling so soft. I have to say now before I go on, I have combination skin. Honestly though, if you struggle with acne or breakouts you need to go get your hands on this cleanser. This may not be the right one for you, but there are other options for different skin types. The only thing I would say is its pricey at £49, so if you’re looking for something cheaper don’t pick this. Although saying that, one bottle lasted me a year and I use this morning and night. It’s seriously an amazing product and I’ll never go back to another cleanser ever again.

Garnier: Micellar Water (Pink one)
I have to say this is such a nice product to take your makeup off before you cleanse. If your lazy which I know some people are (we all can be sometimes lets not kid ourselves here) this product is for you. Its super easy to use and does not leave a trace of makeup, so its amazing to prepare your skin for cleansing. I just hate cleaning when there’s still product on my face, for me your just massaging makeup in to your skin which will clog all your pores. THIS IS NOT OKAY. I’ve used different micellar waters including the Proactive Micellar Water that Garnier do but I felt that one was quite harsh around the eye area sometimes leaving them stinging and I’m not about that life. This one is just so gentle and amazing value for your money, super affordable £1.99, which is what we like to see.

The Body Shop: Seaweed Pore Cleansing Facial Exfoliator
I frigging love The Body Shop, for anyone that knows me I have tons of their products to the fact I could probably sell it myself. (I couldn’t though, I think I would cry). This exfoliator is honestly so nice on your skin. I have sensitive skin and some exfoliators I’ve tried in the past have left me super red, but this one is not harsh on my skin at all. I use it 2 times a week before I do my peel. By the end of it my skin feels like a baby’s bottom. I personally think the body shop are super affordable. I got this in the 3 for 2 so bargain! But for £11 you need to grab it.

The Body Shop: Drops of Youth Liquid Peel
I picked this up recently as I’ve heard a lot of good things about home peels and microdermabrasion. After a long conversation with a lovely girl in the shop I decided to try it out. However, I was not prepared for how good this product actually is. I’m quite gross when it comes to seeing a product work, like a mask when it draws out all your impurities, but lets face it your all kidding yourself if you don’t find satisfaction from that. So when I scrubbed my face and I could actually see my dead skin coming off, it made me so excited. Call me weird I don’t care, I was shocked. Not only was I shocked at the fact that this product was amazing, but once washed off, my god did my skin feel soft and smoothed out. I think my mum and my boyfriend heard me a million times talking to myself about how good my skin felt and looked good. Sorry! Seriously though for £18, why bother going to a spa when you can have it at home.

The Body Shop: Vitamin E Hydrating Toner
I have tried many toners including the Dermalogica one, however it was a spray and sometimes I feel like sprays just don’t do anything because they aren’t actually sinking in to your skin. This is why I picked up this one from The Body Shop and its nearly finished. It’s so gentle on the skin and after my peel or a face mask it just brings back that extra hydration in your skin that you need. Its so nice and super cheap for £7.50.

Urban Decay: B6 Complexion Prep Spray
Now this may be a weird thing to have in my skin care routine and frankly I probably could do without. Its meant to balance and even your skin tone, but if I’m honest I’m not sure whether it works or not. I just really like it as it freshens my skin up, especially throughout the day if I’m feeling flushed or dry, I just spray this over and you’ve got instant hydration without ruining your makeup. It is a bit pricey for £21.15 and I probably will not buy it again once I’ve run out.

The Body Shop: Seaweed Oil Control Gel Cream
This cream is great for combination skin. I use it in the day and it controls all the oil in my skin so no further break outs and no extra oil, because to be honest who wants to look like an oily hot mess. Its super lightweight as I find for my skin if a cream is too heavy it breaks me out. Not a happy Sophie. For £13 this is definitely staying in my skin care routine.

The Body Shop: Tea Tree Night Lotion and Oil
I love the tea tree range. One spot and within two days of this lotion and the tea tree oil its gone. I have never known a skin care product to do that. Tea tree is pure magic in my eyes. I only use the oil at night unless I’m not wearing makeup during the day. I put the oil on scarring and spots. The night lotion is £10 and the tea tree oil is £8.50. You can’t tell me that’s not a bargain. For some reason whenever I shop in The Body Shop there’s always an offer for 3 for 2 on skincare . I mean I’m not complaining.

The Body Shop: Alone Soothing Rescue Cream Mask
Now I’m not going to talk about this for long as I don’t really use it, but it’s there for me in my time of dry needs. I pop this all over my face overnight about once a week or when I have dry patches and it soothes and hydrates my face again. In the morning my face feels incredible. I don’t think there’s a product The Body Shop can’t make that I don’t like. £11.

The Body Shop: Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask
I love my face masks. If I’m frank, I’ll have a go at any face masks. I do love this one in this range though. It leaves my skin feeling super refreshed and helps clear up an spots or impurities. Although it’s not as satisfying as it doesn’t dry up so you can’t see any physical evidence that its working but ah well. £11
So that’s my skin care routine, sorry it was so long but as I said skincare is very important to me and I wanted to show you what works for me. Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these or tell me your favourite skincare product.

Much love

Sophie Joan x
